Terminal Diagnosis Given To Your Elderly Parent? Choose Elderly Hospice Care

If you have an elderly parent that has been given a terminal diagnosis, this can be hard on the whole family. One thing you can do to help is hire an elderly hospice care service. Below is information on what hospice care is and the different types available for your parent.

Hospice Care

The main job of hospice care is to provide care at the end of a person's life. Your parent's doctors, nurses, social workers, home health providers, and family members are all part of the hospice team. All these people work together to ensure your parent has the best hospice care they can.

Your parent's doctor will decide when it is time for elderly hospice care. Once it is decided, the doctor can suggest a hospice service for you. The doctor will then work with the service from the beginning and tell them the type of care your parent needs. The hospice team can help with pain management and provide some medical treatment. They can also offer emotional and spiritual support.  This type of care will allow your parent to pass away in a much more comfortable place instead of in a hospital.

Types of Hospice Care

There is in-home hospice care available if your parent is still living in their home or someone else's home. This means your parent will not have to move into a facility but instead stay at home where they are most comfortable. The elderly hospice care will come to your parent's home regularly, but this will depend on your parent and how they are doing. The service can provide you with things you may need. For example, they can bring a hospital bed to your parent's home, have bars installed in the bathroom, etc.

If your parent is in a nursing home, they can still receive hospice care. The nursing home provides your parent a place to live either for long-term care or while they are receiving a type of treatment. Once your parent is at the end of their life, hospice care will come to the nursing home facility regularly. Your parent will receive the same type of treatment as they would if they were at home.

Talk with an elderly hospice care service in your area to learn much more about how they can help your parent live the last few months of their life with less pain and suffering.
